All successful lacrosse players know the importance of completing a wall ball routine every single day. Lacrosse players with great stick skills will always be on the field. Putting in the individual work will only help you and your team. If you are a beginner or advanced player, you should incorporate a daily wall ball drill into your work out routine if you do not have one.
What is Wall Ball?
Wall Ball is one of the most highly recommended methods for improving stick skills. It is a simple exercise that starts with throwing and catching a lacrosse ball against a flat surface. Wall ball can be used by novice and experienced players. It may include a variety of drills that work on different fundamental lacrosse skills.
Why Wall Ball?
Stick skills are crucial to success in the game of lacrosse. It’s tough to earn a lot of playing time if you don’t have the ability to catch and throw both righty and lefty. Since few are born with this skill, practice is usually the difference-maker. Through the repetition of wall ball, players can train themselves to catch and throw like the pros.
First, find a wall or if you have a bounce back, that will work. Then, grab your lacrosse stick and stand about five to seven yards away. To enjoy your time the most, grab your earbuds or airpods and crank up your favorite playlist.
After warming up, if you are advanced, skip to the next section, if you are a beginner, you can start with this wall ball routine:
- 10 Regular Throws Right
- 10 Regular Throws Left
- 10 Quick Sticks Right
- 10 Quick Sticks Left
- 20 Throw Right/Catch Right, Switch, Throw left/Catch Left
- 20 Throw Right/Catch Left, Switch, Throw Left/Catch Right
- 10 Cross-handed Throws Right
- 10 Cross-handed Throws Left
- 5 One-Handed Throws Right
- 5 One Handed Throws Left
- 5 Behind the Back Throws Right
- 5 Behind the Back Throws Left
These different exercises help build strength, speed and confidence. To get the best results, perform this routine four to five times per week.
